Abusers have a calculated approach to controlling the narrative by speaking first, which greatly impacts their ability to manipulate and maintain power over their victims. By taking the initiative in verbal exchanges, abusers can shape perceptions, distort the truth, and establish credibility before anyone else has an opportunity to speak. This strategic move allows them to lay out their version of events while potentially sidelining alternative viewpoints or contradicting information from outsiders.
Furthermore, abusers use this tactic to create doubt, confusion, and dependency within their victims' minds. They exploit their articulate communication skills to appear authoritative and persuasive, thereby solidifying their control over the narrative. This psychological manipulation is particularly effective because it disempowers victims who may struggle with self-expression or lack confidence in challenging false narratives.
Recognizing this dynamic is crucial for understanding the insidious tactics employed by abusers and STOPPING the abuse.
When abusers are allowed to control the narrative, it becomes a dangerous and terrifying situation. Governmental agencies being overwhelmed and careless in their duties leads to victims becoming further victimized.
The victim begins to feel like no one will believe them and abandon hope of taking back their lives. They often question is there any hope of getting out of this situation?
The answer is YES.
We are on a mission to change the narrative of domestic violence.
Our founder's story is a powerful testament to his strength and resilience. He faced layers of domestic violence from emotional “intimate terrorism” to financial exploitation during the course of his brief but chaotic marriage. Unfortunately fleeing did not end the abuse and in fact enraged his abuser who created a bizarre course of events worthy of a reality TV drama. Through lies and deception, using third parties and playing the "victim" this has continued for over a decade. His abuser stalking his family, friends and co-workers. Any morsel of information his abuser could garner, his abuser becoming dangerously obsessed. His abuser went so far as to obtain a certification as a "sniper". But did this alert or alarm law enforcement or the judicial system? No. Why you ask?
Well as difficult as it is for a victim to be a woman it is even harder as a man. You are a non stereo typical victim. Bottom line, he was not believed by law enforcement nor the judicial system. Enduring comments like "hey your a big guy your in fear of that little women?" Sadly, that very attitude combined with the abuser's manipulation and lies almost costing him his life and left him permanently disabled.
Despite facing this unimaginable injustice, as his ex continued to weaponized law enforcement and the legal system he fearlessly pursued his vision to free himself from this circle of abuse. He refused to be victimized by this broken person and more importantly from a very broken system.
With determination, he established this groundbreaking nonprofit organization. I'm a Survivor of Domestic Violence supports ALL individuals who have experienced adversity. It is now a haven of empowerment, providing solace and resources to those in need.
His journey showcases the transformative power of resilience, inspiring others to overcome challenges. His dedication has touched countless lives and left a lasting impact. As this organization continues to grow, it's influence expands both nationally and now globally.
"On a personal level, I understand the reality of what is like to be a victim and not be believed. I have experienced first-hand how scarce support services are for not only all victims of domestic violence but in my case for males in this society. There is this ongoing theme that help is available but in reality it feels like more of a marketing campaign at best. It is infuriating to witness the lack of attention and resources dedicated to addressing the unique challenges for domestic violence and in my case issues faced by men. Society insists on perpetuating traditional gender roles and stereotypes, assuming that men should always be strong and self-reliant. This perspective completely disregards the fact that every person, regardless of their gender, deserves access to proper care and assistance when needed. It is high time we challenge these norms and establish inclusive support for the needs of all individuals. It's time to flip the script on domestic violence".
